Hi, there to all my fans out there reading my post, this is my final post and I would like to make it special for you, I hope you guys enjoy it. Remember in my earlier post I had a couple questions I came up with well i'm going to answer them for you and for me right now. One of my questions I came up with was, what types of weights do the Greeks use to get strong enough to throw the discus because the Discus is really heavy, the discus weighs up to 2-5 kg. After researching I the answer I came up with is the Greeks didn't lift weights, they got their strength from throwing the discus over and over again. My second question I had was, what was the family like for an athlete in Greece. The family life for an athlete had it's up's and down's, for example the male athlete was allowed to get married and still compete in the Olympic games like discus throwing but a married female couldn't compete in the Olympic games.
The athlete could have kids but the parents usually wanted a boy because the boy could grow up and take care of the parents, were if a girl got married she would go off with her husband. The interesting fact that really scares me is if the dad didn't want a girl of even a boy because the dad made most of the decisions in the family he would leave the baby outside of the house to die or anyone that wanted to "adopt" the baby they could. My third and final question I had was did the Greek discus thrower ever wear any type of clothing, because in the pictures and sculptures they are always cloth less. After researching the answer to my question is most of the discus throwers did not use cloths because a toga wasn't really the most comfortable thing to use back in ancient Greece. But a few of the discus throwers did use cloths because they didn't want to show people their nakedness. There are a lot of things Greeks value about their culture and sports but the discus reveals the value of how the Greeks value sports such as the Olympics which include discus throwing. Some of the Greek values still affect our life today, for example we still value a lot of sports and that's were the quote comes " for the love of the game". We Americans are so passionate about sports and we just love sports so much, for example I love baseball and when I get older i'm going to be a major league baseball player.
Now that i'm done with answering all my questions I would like to share some facts about how to throw a discus and tell you some of the key highlights I had while I was researching about my topic. There are a lot of steps to throw the discus the right way, the first step is if you are a right handed thrower you would bring your left foot forward and transfer your weight to your right foot. Then you swing your throwing hand round a few times then release the disc and the furthest person to have the furthest disc wins the game. Some of the fun moments I had while researching was getting to know my topic better I have learned a lot of things about discus throwing that I didn't know before and I had a great time researching with this project.
But i'm not just done yet I have two extra questions about discus throwing. My second to last question is what type of material was the discus made out of and why was it specifically made out of that material? The answer to my question is the discus was originally made out of stone, and later was made out of bronze, lead, or iron. It was specifically made out of stone because the stone added weight and better spin to the discus. My last question is who was the person to invent and be the first to play discus throwing. The answer to my question is discus was invented in 776 B.C.E, the person who invented discus was a man named Elis, after he won a running event the award he got was a disc and he made something special out of that disc making the game discus throwing. Now I have a few facts about discus throwing. My first fact is the discus has been played in Olympic games since the start of 1896, that means that discus has been going on for more than 2,000 years. My second fact I would like to share is the discus is pretty heavy and to make it even more heavy they add a smooth metal rim and a metal core to give and add on weight to the discus.
